The life of Eucalyptus seeds

It has been challenging making this, it is my first time trying out 5-7 kg of clay. I must admit, the first two, I would have done it with 4 kg, and it would've been a lot nicer. I am getting much better now, its lighter as well.

Different eucalyptus have different shape of seed and they changes as they go through the stages of their life cycle.

Made it in the Finalist of Australian Craft Award!!

How exciting!! What a brilliant news! They have recently change the date of the announcement of finalist from 20th to the 28th, I been sitting on the edge of the seat for days!!

On the 28th waking up, first thing I did was to check my email. I didn't get one from them...total devastation. I just assume it's something they would send out first thing in the morning. I was a bit too afraid to check the website, but have to face the truth. When I click on my bookmark, Odd... no update?! I was refreshing the page over and over...

FINALLY~~~ they updated around noon >_<"
phew~~ I am 1 of the 5 finalist!

Now realize I will have to go through this again on the 1st of Nov, when they announce the winner... as the award is announced at Tasmania and I would not be able to attend...

I am guessing it would be a day of wait before I hear the winner...bracing myself for the possible downfall or glory. If I do win, I would probably be kicking myself for not flying over to Tassie to accept it...but can't imagine flying over and not receiving... I wish I could know ahead...

The rating is closing on the 30th of Oct, which is tomorrow, the moment of truth... months of hard work, promotions and exhibit is going to pay off or not...

Thank you for all those that have support me and help me out along the way, regardless I win the award or not, I am very appreciated for those who have invested their time and effort in me!!!

Lotus leaf bowls

I wonder which shape is better for to theme. The first one is round at the bottom and look like sun is shining on the young green leaf, with the water reflecting and glimmering.

This one is a little more on an angle to the base and the leaf look more matured, almost drying up at the edges; the green is really vibrant and strong.

Koi pond

I made a few Koi bowls, before I put it in the store, I line them up for a shoot, it look almost as if the koi are swimming in the pond with the black rock at the bottom.

I tried a different glaze to seal the bowl, to create the reflection of water glimmering. Seeing the motion of the water move as the koi swims around.

Made it in Wilkins and Kent

My "Let Loose" series couple cups has just made it in the Wilkins and Kent store in Fitzory!! How wonderful they have taken me on, I have always loved the shop and their furniture!

The exhibit day of Let Loose series at Northcote pottery

Thanks to Northcote Pottery for making me the feature artist of the month, the turn out was great. Due to poplar demand there will be another on the 26th of Oct 1-3 pm, please come if you missed out on the 5th.

It was a wonderful experience being there, talking to people that appreciate ceramic and my work. Thanks for all the friends that made the effort to come and bringing their friends along with them. Special thanks for those who have found my piece a home! Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy making them.

Australian Craft Award- SHORTLISTED :)

Thank you everyone, I just got an email saying I made it on the shortlist!!

Setting up at Northcote pottery

What an exciting thing to do, seeing months work being up there, although it isn't much but it's a wonderful feeling and a sense of accomplishment.

I figure this is the best way to go, although it's not a gallery exhibition, but being able to set up a table full of my work is more than what I could have done at an group exhibition. Have to thank Northcote pottery and Emidio for putting me up for this.
Here's some photos of the set up.

The competition pieces at the store window.

That's me checking to see if everything is lined up, with my mouth open going "Humm..."

More checking, the stamps face front, it's a compulsive disorder's paradise .

Setting up some lights, you can see it's really a table full~

The display at the corner, where the lighting is best. Slightly worried that because my glaze are satin glaze, it really need those gallery spot light on them to see the spots coming out.

Lotus leaf bowl

If you have seen my previous work, you would know I love the lotus theme. Here is a bowl I developed of the lotus leaf. I left the porcelain area bare and glazed the leaved with the glaze I have recently developed. Although the glaze is temperamental, it worked out brilliantly, the slight different thickness, its a total different color
It look as if the lotus leaf was captured under the sun and reflected by the glimmering water.

2013 Australian Craft Award

I have just entered the competition today, very excited. Took three whole days to do the application. I was really worried that there wasn't going to be a sunny day for me take there photos. It has been raining a lot in Melbourne lately. I hardly get any afternoon sun coming in the house. Lucky Sunday was sunny, the house was landmine with cups. I took about 10G worth of photos and picked the 10 that's on the 2013 Australian craft website. Hope everyone will appreciate the work.

2013 Australian Craft Awards - selection of cups

Unique pieces for the unique individuals. Enjoy a piece of art in your everyday life, something you can touch and use, that expresses yourself. That is not mass manufactured, provides ergonomic hold with different texture, satisfy your sensation in visual, touch and taste. Enhance the experience of drinking tea, like the Japanese tea ceremony.

The purpose of my collections are to bring joy to people through the appreciation of the beauty in ceramic, and carry the passion from one to another in our daily life.

The stamp you see on the pieces is the last word of my Mandarin name, pronounced “show”, meaning Jade like stone. I stamp this on my pieces in hope that it will be as what the word represents.

spring is here

Developed from the shape of the frost, using the new glaze I developed. Giving it a variation of colors, from light brown the color of soil to the new leaves' lime green and the branches extending and leaves maturing to a darker green. You can see all that change from one single vase, like that tree in your front yard.

instragram

I have started to use intragram, it is really convenient in a sense. I don't have wait for the right lighting to take photo with my DSLR and photoshop before upload the photos.
Here is the link to have a look online, or you can use the app to search "imisabellawang" and follow me to get updates.

The quality of the shot are not as good but allows me to share this momentary excitement of seeing the first piece for the first time.
